Balsa Wood Jewelery
Cleaning
Wipe regularly. For a routine clean, use a soft, dry, 100% cotton flannel or microfiber cloth to gently wipe away any dirt, dust, or oils.
Storage
Choose a cool, dry location. Store balsa wood jewelry in a place with stable, room-temperature humidity. Avoid bathrooms or windowsills where it might be exposed to extreme moisture or direct sunlight.
Protect from sunlight. Direct sunlight can cause the wood to fade and become brittle over time.
Use a soft pouch or box. To prevent scratches and damage from other jewelry, store your pieces in a fabric-lined box or a separate soft pouch.
Consider a desiccant. To further guard against humidity, you can place a small silica packet in your storage container.
Balsa wood jewelry requires careful handling due to its soft and porous nature. And while all our pieces have been sealed, protecting it from moisture and harsh chemicals is key to maintaining its appearance and structural integrity.
Daily care
Keep it dry. Always remove balsa wood jewelry before showering, swimming, washing dishes, or engaging in activities where it might get wet. Moisture can cause the wood to warp, swell, or crack. If it does get wet, pat it dry immediately with a soft cloth.
Apply last, take off first. Put on your jewelry after applying makeup, perfumes, or lotions. These chemicals can damage the wood's finish over time. Take your jewelry off first to avoid contact with cosmetics or cleaning supplies.
Handle gently. Balsa is a delicate wood. Avoid bumping, dropping, or bending the jewelry, as this can cause chips or breakages.
